Job Summary:
The Senior Manager, Business Affairs will provide day-to-day Business and Legal Affairs support for Walt Disney Records, Hollywood Records, Disney Music Publishing, Walt Disney Concerts and other music-based initiatives across the APAC region as well as other DMG(Disney Music Group) projects (domestic or otherwise) as assigned.
The Senoir Manager may periodically be required to work alternative hours in order to directly support and communicate with music business and related teams in the APAC region.


Although the role will support the entire APAC region, the position is expected to actively support all music initiatives in Japan, Korea, and China in concert with local music leads and guidance from DMG Burbank.


The Senior Manager will proactively communicate with APAC music leads and related teams to provide active and timely guidance and support to local music leads and to communicate to DMG Burbank, well in advance of local cross LOB priority projects, such as local D+ programming with significant music initiatives, as well as Parks, Francise and Live Event initiatives.

The Senior Manager must be familiar, and remain current, with local laws and practices in the region in order to support local compliance with particular focus on laws and regulations governing intellectual property, such as trademark and copyright, AI, marketing and advertising, (including, without limitation, marketing to minors), related privacy and consumer data issues and other relevant laws and regulatory structures.

The Senior Manager must also be familiar with Disney internal policies related to privacy, marketing to minors, international trade and commerce and any such policies that specifically affect the APAC region.


Responsibilities and Duties of the Role:

  • Legal guidance on deal structure and negotiation of deals will at all times be supervised by the DMG Business Affairs and Legal Counsel senior leadership. Under the direction of the DMG Business Affairs and Legal Counsel senior leadership, the Senior Manager will provide day-to-day DMG-related business and legal affairs support for Japan and the APAC region, including without limitation, negotiating, drafting, reviewing, and revising local documentation of agreements across a broad range of matters such as: recording agreements, producer and mixer agreements, label waivers, endorsement and sponsorship agreements, artwork agreements, concert production agreements, brand partnership agreements, licensing agreements and other applicable industry agreements. All agreements and other matters will be subject to the final oversight and approval by the DMG Business Affairs and Legal Counsel senior leadership.
  • Develop and maintain deal templates, form agreements, and similar documentation and processes to ensure consistent and timely acquisition of rights in the applicable local territory consistent with applicable law and company policies.
  • Actively track and present updates across multiple regional projects so that exploitations may be made on a timely basis and key decision makers are informed and armed with the information necessary to make those decisions.
  • Ensure that documentation is signed, relevant deal points are communicated, and all documentation is filed as applicable.

Required Education, Experience/Skills/Training:

  • 7+ years of experience (preferably specific to music industry).
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically, devise practical solutions, effectively distill and present relevant information and complex issues to senior staff for guidance and resolution.
  • Breadth of knowledge across a full range of business and legal matters within the recorded music, music publishing, concert and entertainment industries including without limitation, clearance, immigration, tax, engaging minors, collective bargaining and union issues, talent relations, etc.
  • Proven organizational, prioritization, and time management skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to handle multiple priorities effectively across time zones.
  • Flexible and willing to take on matters outside of areas of expertise.
